March 2018 Torrey Oaks

Florida Cracker News
March 12-16, 2018
Torrey Oaks Golf & RV Resort, Bowling Green, FL

President's Message:

At our March Rally, we had a very good time despite being a much smaller group than normal.  The facility at Torrey Oaks was first rate with a really beautiful meeting room and kitchen.  As usual, we never have enough food to feed everyone (ha ha ha), but as normal it was wonderful.  I even got to play a round of golf on their 18-hole golf course.  The weather really cooperated and we were even able to play some games and sit together outdoors.

Have a Happy Easter and I look forward to seeing you at our April Rally at Ocala Sun RV Resort in Ocala, FL. We arrive on 4/16th and leave on 4/20/18.

Have fun.
                                                                                                Gene

We were a small group this time since we only consisted of six rigs.  However, I’m sure it will come as no surprise that we still managed to do a lot of eating and laughing.  The only thing we lacked was a shortage of folks to play our usual games of Nickel Nickel and Left Right Center.  The excitement level just isn’t the same when we don’t have a large group.  Don did bring out the Kangaroo Races, though, and many of our group also had a lot of fun playing cornhole.  Ron & Betty might not make it to many rallies but we found out Ron plays a wickedly good game of cornhole.  He was plopping those bags through the hole like he had a magnet drawing them in.  I think at one point he hit that hole with all five bags during his turn.

Don & Norm found the perfect
spot to dispense tickets

Betty and Ron got to meet many new faces

The delicious meatball sub sandwiches provided by Joan & Bob was indeed a nice way to welcome us for our first meal.  We all stuffed our subs and still couldn’t manage to get to the bottom of that crockpot of meatballs.

I’m so disappointed I don’t have a lot of photos to share.  I surely did miss my regular photographers, Ellen and Denise, this trip.  Those gals have totally spoiled me when it comes to recording our rallies.  Not only did I fail on taking a lot of photos, we also had to leave a day early so I’m hoping the others present can add some once this gets posted.

The kitchen facilities at Torrey Oaks sat the standard on rally convenience.  At least I managed to snap some shots of that to help us remember what a great kitchen they supplied for us.  There haven’t been too many times we’ve had two full-sized ranges with ovens and the beautiful cabinets were stocked with all sorts of cooking appliances.  Future rally hosts – this is a good one.

This large kitchen made food prep easy

Two stoves were quite the bonus

There was even a lounge area

The counter area was perfect for serving

We were a small group ...

... but we shared lots of laughs

Another advantage at this park was the breakfast they cooked for residents on Tuesday morning.  We couldn’t believe all the food they put on our plates for the small price of $4 or $5 depending on your choice.  It’s definitely the way to go for a breakfast meal when a choice like this is available.  They were also going to have a $5 lunch available on Thursday.  Our early departure made us miss that but I hope some of the rest of the group took advantage of it.

As usual, we divided out in search of adventure or on various shopping trips.  Several of us managed to make a trip back to K&J Produce in Arcadia to stock up on meat and produce and Gene managed to get a golfing game in.  Most of the time, we just enjoyed gathering around at Bob & Joan’s rig to relax and enjoy group conversations.  We also enjoyed having Lynn & Al stop in to visit and were so pleased when they were able to stay through dinner that night.

It's always a pleasure to get a visit
             from Lynn and Al

Our potluck breakfast and potluck dinner provided plenty of variety and lots of tasty treats.  Having sign-up sheets ahead of time ensured that all courses were covered and there surely was something for everyone’s taste.

Our next rally will be at Ocala Sun RV Resort in Ocala, FL.  The rally price is $173.  We currently have openings still available so please let our Treasurer know of your interest as soon as possible as we only have 20 sites reserved.

Safe travels and hope to see you in April.
