November Rally - Suwanee River

Florida Cracker News
Nov. 12-16, 2018
Suwanee River Rendezvous - Mayo, FL

There’s no President’s message this month with the exception of Gene wishing all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving.  Gene had to leave the November rally early and is now back home and recovering from surgery.  I decided he deserved a break, especially since I was already very late getting this posted.  I’m sure we all wish Gene a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing his healthier version next month.

Thanks to Jim & Karin P. and Don & Denise H., I am happy to be able to provide a newsletter for a rally we were unable to attend.  I just hope you enjoy reading about their November adventures as much as I did.  Thanks also to all the folks who sent rally photos to be included.  Not only did Joan S. cover for me as secretary this month, she also was a great photographer and sent many photos.  Norm & I look forward to meeting all of the new members soon.

Thanks again to everyone - Jan

A bunch of motorhomes (12) came and settled in for a couple fun-filled days. Those who missed out will be very jealous. New members; Greg and Barb M., Susan B. and Don R. and Paul & Mary W. enjoyed their first Florida Cracker rally.  (At least they are still members and did not quit!)  Don & Denise H. also introduced a new addition - their new four-legged son, Max.

Arrival on Monday was very organized but most people did not park as originally assigned. Monday’s happy hour was held on Rich & Pat F.’s site which was now occupied by Jim & Karin P. Seems like we were too lazy to drive down the hill for happy hour. After happy hour, it was very worthwhile trucking down the hill for a great Sloppy Joe dinner prepared by Judy & Dave H.

Tuesday started off with eggs and sausages thanks again to Judy & Dave.  Tuesday was our relaxing day and the best weather of the rally.  Because of the forecast, the BBQ was changed to Tuesday night.  Four grills were fired up (Bob & Joan’s, Gene’s, Don & Denise’s and Jim & Karin’s) and some meat was burnt under the pavilion. As usual, we had too much food.

Swift wind and some wet weather ruined our hopes for a campfire as well as our canoe and kayak trip which had been scheduled.

Wednesday morning we enjoyed some pancakes and sausages hosted by the Jim & Sharon M. and Larry & Virginia H.  That evening was our pot luck dinner in a warm and cozy building. Many crockpots were filled with a variety of yummy food.

Thursday breakfast was donuts hosted by Bill & Peg S.  Thursday night 14 members went out to dinner in downtown Mayo at the Mayo Café.

They say that it never rains on campers; well I guess our Florida Cracker Motorhomes do not classify as campers!

Thanks to all who participated in the rally and those who helped our President get a start on his trip.  Get well, Gene!  Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.  See you in December.
